Why Choose a Bird Nanny

Every Bird Needs a Nanny!!!!

There are several different reasons why you should choose The Bird Nanny. For one it is less stressfull on the bird. A trip to the vets is always such a hassle for both the owner and the bird. The ride to and from the vet, especially after he/she is stressed from the grooming. Strangers that take the bird into another room that is unfamiliar to your bird. The Bird Nanny comes to you and your bird.  When the grooming is done, he/she is put right back into their cage or onto their favorite perch. They may stress for a few minutes, but I have found that they are finished stressing in about 10 minutes on average.

I have been breeding and grooming birds from budgies to Macaws for over fifteen years now. Gosh, I can't believe that it has been that long. When I first started with birds, I went to the vets much like everyone else. I found that it was getting quite expensive with every new bird I aquired. Between the testing and the clippings, I was going broke. I had to do something. I simply practiced on my birds. At first I was so nervous. Clipping wings and nails are not so easy as one thinks. If you clip a nail down too far, it bleeds. It can bleed for sometime. You need to know how to stop it. Clipping wings are also not for the squeemish. You have to educate yourself on bloodfeathers. These are the ones that are just growing in. If you clip a bloodfeather, your bird can die from loss of blood. This is were a professional should be used. Someone with experience and knowledge of what to do in case of an emergency.

The summer of 2000 I decided to take a seminar and become avian certified. It was offered at an American Federation of Aviculture convention in Maryland. That decision has become one of the best ones I have ever made. Little did I know how that would effect my future endeavors. I take a test and become recertified every three years now. I have learned so much about taking care of birds through both experience and books, and don't forget the bird club....That's a whole chapter in a book by itself...With every new client comes a new challenge and that's what it is all about. I love the birds, some don't love me, but that is okay....

Taking a Break From My Regular Routine!!!!!!

Yo Ho Ho and a bunch of Birds!!!!!

My Favorite Birds

Of course my favorite bird is ALL of them, but, Rio is my Special Bird. Read her story and you will know why......Many of my birds are adoptees, but she was not. I hand fed her from six weeks of age.

My birds love to listen to music during the day so I leave the radio on for them. I love country music. They already know how to two step, so I am waiting for them to sing a country song one of these days!!!
