I became the Bird Nanny quite by accident. Over 15 years ago I purchased two baby cockatiels for my girls at Christmas
time. I became so enchanted with them that I purchased one for myself. Before I knew it I was Hooked. I went from pet
owner to breeder to owner of the bigger birds. As my flock grew so did my expenses. My grooming expenses for the Vets started
to get out of hand. I decided that I needed to learn how to groom my pets. I tried to read up on the subject, but not
much was written and no courses were available. I asked my local avian vet if she could give me a few lessons. She did and
I was able to groom my smaller birds, but the larger ones were a challange. I struggled and read lots of articles on bird
behavior and how to win a birds trust. I found that holding them and trimming them by myself wasn't working out. I asked a
friend of mine to help me and he agreed. I taught him how to restrain the birds while I trimmed. This worked out much better. I
solved my grooming problems. It wasn't long after that members from my bird club started asking me who I got
to groom my birds. I told them that I did it myself. They were amazed and asked me if I could groom their birds. Thats how
I became The Bird Nanny. I have since solved the problem of grooming birds by myself. I invented a handy tool called the birdy
sleeve. Works great and restrains the birds just enough to get the job done, but does not cause harm to the bird.
Anyone who owns a bird will have a question or two about birds and bird behavior. Including myself. I still
ask questions, read articles, and attend lectures when possible. I don't think that anyone knows everything there is to know.
I sure don't, but when it comes to gooming your bird, I am an expert. I would like to share what I have learned through
my 15 plus years of breeding and training exotic birds. Please don't hesitate to e mail me with a question. I will try to
answer it to the best of my knowledge, or at least point you in the right direction to find it. Every species of bird is
different and have many different needs. Please try to read up on a species before purchasing it. I find that the reason there
are so many rescued birds is that the owner neglected to read up on the species before the purchase. Please don't let your
decision become a statistic.
